Art Basel 2013 at The Betsy
The Betsy-South Beach is proud to present Drawing on Habit: An Ambition, In the Annex Galleries
Created, curated, and hosted by Saul Ostrow and Lidija Slavkovic with support from UNTITLED.
This installation of works by emerging artists from NY and Miami will form the basis for conversations with a wide-range of artists, critics, and other interested parties. The focus is the formation of “habit” relative to artistic practice. From an invited core group, using a ‘viral model’ the circle will grow as these participants invite others invited to join the conversation. In the curators’ words, ‘Our vision is that these open discussions will stand in marked contrast to traditional Fair conversations (and artist/critic interactions) that rely on a classical theatre model that habitually require a passive audience.’
Saul Ostrow is a NY based critic and curator, and the Art Editor at Large, Bomb Magazine. Since 1987, he has curated over 70 exhibitions in the US and abroad and served as Co-Editor of Lusitania Press (1996-2004) as well as the Editor of the book series Critical Voices in Art, Theory and Culture (1996- 2006) published by Routledge, London.
Lidija Slavkovic is an artist presently living and working in Miami. Her work explores continuity of present and discontinuity of presence pertaining to the construction of image. Though her primary interest is drawing, she has worked in a wide range of media. Her work has been exhibited in both the US and abroad.
