Zen and the Art of Contemporary Classical Piano
Roberto Berrocal began his piano studies in his native Bilbao, in the Basque country of Spain. After graduating from the New England Conservatory of Music with a Masters Degree in Piano Performance he obtained a Graduate Diploma in Collaborative Piano focusing in opera, studying with the renowned pianist and conductor John Moriarty. Because of his technical virtuosity and sensitivity, he is acclaimed as one of the leading Basque pianists of his generation. He is Founding Artistic Director of the St. Hugh-Steinway Concert Series, and coach/pianist for the Miami Classical Music Festival. Berrocal brings a fresh interdisciplinary perspective to dignified concert hall piano performance and in an effort to bring in new audiences he the traditional lines between what purists view as ‘great literature’ to include ‘serious’ arrangements of familiar tunes - including those he has recorded for performance at this event - at The Betsy Hotel.
