Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons

Born in Matanzas province in Cuba in 1959, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons bears a familial history that is intermingled with the sugar industry’s presence in her hometown of La Vega. 
She was recently represented in the Johannesburg Biennial and has had solo exhibitions all over the world -  in the United States, Canada, Japan, Norway, France, Italy, and Cuba - including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. 
Campos-Pons attended the National School of Art in Havana, Graduate Institute of Art, and Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and is represented by Bernice Steinbaum Gallery, Miami.  (Bernicesteinbaumgallery.com)
A sculptor, installation artist, videographer, and photographer, her work renders elements of personal history and persona that have universal relevance, she exploits a variety of photographic means, portraiture, landscape, and documentary photography.
