FAQ's

Q:

Who owns The Betsy Hotel?

A:

Jonathan Plutzik, his wife Lesley Goldwasser, and their son Zachary, the hotel’s Managing Director, own The Betsy. Our hotel is family owned and operated (a rarity in South Beach), with the Plutzik-Goldwasser family curating every aspect of The Betsy as if it is their home. Read more about our team here.

Q:

Is The Betsy Hotel on the beach?

A:

We are a beachfront hotel right on Ocean Drive, just steps from the sand and surf of South Beach. Cross the street in front of the hotel, walk through a shady grove of palms, and you’re on the white sand of South Beach, less than a minute’s walk from our front door. Many of our guests also choose to enjoy the beach from our beach-facing roof decks and rooftop pool.

Q:

What kind of food does The Betsy have?

A:

We take food seriously at The Betsy; Chef Laurent Tourondel has leant his refined touch to every facet of The Betsy dining experience. Linger over a fresh-baked Betsy breakfast spread on our beach-facing front terrace, set up shop in our Carlton Room Café (featuring iconic Miami roaster Panther Coffee), unwind with a craft cocktail and a great book by the rooftop pool, then treat yourself to dinner at our signature restaurant LT Steak & Seafood, where Chef LT’s menu marries local ingredients with influences and techniques from France, Asia, and Latin America. And save room for dessert — Pastry Chef Gabriela Amelunge bakes made-from-scratch desserts for all of The Betsy’s restaurants (and her popovers have the most devoted following of any dish at The Betsy).

Q:

Does The Betsy have entertainment?

A:

Every night (and then some)! In a city once known for its jazz clubs, The Betsy has created one of greater Miami’s top jazz hideaways, now the region’s longest running live music series. Seven nights a week, and twice more at brunch on the weekends, there’s live jazz in our Lobby Bar, and talent includes the best and brightest local musicians and internationally renowned artists. The (mostly) jazz musicians are carefully selected and booked in the style of any serious club that appreciates excellent music. No drink minimum, and never a cover charge. Take a look at our event calendar to see who’s playing.

Q:

Which airport is closest to South Beach, Miami?

A:

Miami International Airport (MIA) is approximately 10 miles — or a 20-minute drive — from The Betsy, and Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) is only 21 miles, or a 40 minute drive. For details on ride hailing services, taxis, and shuttles, click here; our concierge team is pleased to help with arrangements. We also find that Uber and Lyft are usually the most convenient (rates vary), while yellow cabs charge a flat rate of $35 from MIA to South Beach.

Q:

Is The Betsy Hotel dog friendly?

A:

We certainly are! Our own golden retrievers Betsy and Rosa might just be the first to greet you when you arrive at the hotel. We offer a whole host of services for your four-legged companions and treat our canine guests like family. Read more here.

Q:

What is the weather like in Miami Beach?

A:

Greater Miami has the warmest winter temperatures on the US mainland, and winter in Miami Beach means balmy days in the high 70s and warm nights in the 60s. Spring and autumn are lovely here as well; April and May in particular are an underappreciated time in Miami Beach, with some of the best weather of the year. But summer may be the most surprising: cooled by our proximity to the ocean, Miami Beach’s sea breezes mean our summer temperatures are often lower than those in Boston, New York, and Washington D.C. In short, there’s never a bad time to visit.

Q:

How can I get around South Beach?

A:

The Betsy is in the heart of one of the most walkable neighborhoods in America, with Ocean Drive’s pedestrian-only zone beginning right at The Betsy’s corner of the boulevard. If you’d rather get around on two wheels, you’ll find a Citi Bike station right across the street from us. Uber, Lyft, and licensed taxis are also readily available.

Q:

Is parking available at The Betsy Hotel?

A:
We offer valet parking at $45 per night, with unlimited in and out privileges (our valet podium is located at 1446 Ocean Drive, just a few feet from the corner of the hotel). Additional parking is close by — just ask our friendly concierge.
Q:

What is there to do in Miami Beach?

A:

The Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the Perez Museum of Art, the Frost Museum of Science, the Bass Museum of Art, the New World Symphony, the Miami City Ballet, the Fillmore Miami Beach, the Wolfsonian, the Miami Beach Cinematheque, the Colony Theater, Florida International University’s Miami Beach Urban Studios, and Lincoln Road are all a short walk from here. Let our knowledgeable concierge team help you plan the ideal outing.

Q:

Do you deliver food and drinks to the beach?

For food and drink service by the water, we invite guests to take advantage of our text-to-order service, with full food and beverage menus available at our Rooftop Pool as well as our Courtyard Pool.

Q:

How long is Miami Beach?

A:

Approximately seven miles. The beach walk, with an entrance immediately in front of The Betsy, stretches from 41st Street down to the southern tip of South Beach. It’s the perfect place to soak in the soul of Miami Beach, whether you’re exploring on foot or getting around by the convenient free trolley service.

Q:
