Ray Tenorio Viera was born in La Habana, Cuba. After three years studying Social Communication at the Universidad de La Habana, he moved to the United States, where he completed his Associate’s degree in Graphic and Commercial Arts at Miami Dade College. During this time, he also studied Illustration Design at AID Berlin in Germany, an experience that deepened his visual language and broadened his cultural perspective. Now based in Miami, Ray draws inspiration from Surrealism, Expressionism, mythology, and Latin American and African folklore.
His artwork becomes a bridge between the intangible and the physical—a vivid, emotional terrain where imagination takes shape. Through bold warm colors, confident lines, rhythmic forms, abundant eyes, and subtly sensual symbols, he creates a dynamic dialogue between the artwork and the viewer. Ray’s pieces transport audiences into a realm of psychedelic dreams and inviting emotions. Viewers are compelled to look closer, discovering figures and hidden narratives that assemble like a visual puzzle. His unconventional shapes and non-Western mythologies unfurl across mixed-media paper or wood panels, built through layers of polychromatic oil-based pencils that create rich textures and natural luminosity.
Each piece emerges intuitively, without preliminary sketching, allowing spontaneity and instinct to guide the process. When encountering Ray’s drawings, the viewer becomes part of an exchange—because the artwork looks back. Each person forms their own story, their own emotional film, shaped by the symbols before them. Yet beneath those individualized interpretations lies a shared core, a consistent essence that keeps each piece coherent and alive. ”
“My drawings are an open invitation to dream, feel, play, and explore. My art is life. I’m a visual artist who is in love with synergy, fascinated by Expressionism, Surrealism, and the way people interact with art. I strive to create a conversation—not a direct one, but a soul-deep dialogue—between the artwork and the viewer. Beauty, sensuality, abstraction, and joy are always present in my work. I invite you all to be part of my fairytale world.”
