How does a great musician get to Carnegie Hall? Practice. Practice. Practice! At least that’s the old story, and in this case it seems to be true with one of The Betsy’s recent artists in residence, Jazz musician Charu Suri.
Charu Suri will make her debut at Carnegie Hall on December 20, 2019. She is a classically trained pianist who debuted with her experimental jazz trio in South Florida at The Betsy Hotel in April 2019. Charu Suri was a visiting artist in TheBetsyWritersRoom.com – one of 800+ creative visitors to receive the honor of a residency.
Suri’s debut album, “Lollipops for Breakfast,” with her original music, has gotten rave reviews.
Charu Suri titles her debut album, and the set's title tune, Lollipops For Breakfast, a tip of the hat to her daughter's request for an unconventional start-of-the-day meal. It is a tune that speaks to the child in us all. It is playful; it struts with a youthful glee; it boogie-woogies with an insouciant elan. It is a first-rate jazz tune that doesn't take itself too seriously.

The Betsy Hotel hosts jazz seven nights a week in the Lobby Salon – no cover, no minimum. With LT Steak and Seafood steps away, many patrons choose to start and end the evening with a few sets of jazz. Friday and Saturday sets run til midnight – with other nights ending at 11 PM. And the drinks are amazing too.
